Claude Team plan pricing: seat costs, the 2-seat minimum and Standard vs Premium (2026)

Updated 2026-10-18 · 12 min read

Short version: a Claude Team Standard seat is $25 per member per month billed monthly, or $20 billed annually. A Premium seat is $125 or $100 and gives 5x the usage of a Standard seat. You need at least 2 seats and can have up to 150, and you can mix the two seat types. Claude Code is included with every Team seat. Premium costs exactly 5x Standard for 5x the per-session usage, so buy it only for people who keep hitting Standard limits. Seat cuts and Premium-to-Standard moves only take effect at your next renewal, which on annual billing means the annual renewal date. This page covers Claude Team on its own: seat types, minimums, how the bill is worked out and the rules for changing seats. For a head-to-head with GitHub's plan see Copilot Business vs Claude Team. The Team API credits for all seats go into one balance, “capped at $500” a month. They pay for the Claude API, the Console Playground, Claude Managed Agents and the Agent SDK. They don't cover “Interactive Claude Code in the terminal, IDE, desktop, or web” or extra usage, and unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle. An Owner has to claim them by linking a Claude Console organization, once the plan has been active for seven days.

Minimum and maximum seats

Standard vs Premium: same price per unit of usage

Anthropic's own multipliers make the maths simple. A Premium seat gets 6.25x Pro's per-session allowance and a Standard seat gets 1.25x. That's 5x the usage (6.25 ÷ 1.25) for 5x the price ($125 ÷ $25 monthly, or $100 ÷ $20 annually). So Premium doesn't buy usage more cheaply. It just puts more of it on one person, because Team limits are per member: “Usage limits can't be transferred or shared between team members.” Claude Team usage limits (opens in a new tab)

  • Give Premium to people who repeatedly hit Standard limits, not to everyone “just in case”. Team plans include usage analytics on the pricing page's feature list, so check who actually runs out.
  • For occasional overflow, the organization can turn on usage credits so members keep working after their limit, billed at standard API rates. That can cost less than a Premium seat for someone who only runs out now and then. We can't say where the break-even is, because Anthropic doesn't publish what a session allowance is worth in tokens.
  • Weekly limits apply to both seat types. Anthropic gives the per-session multipliers but doesn't publish the weekly limits as multiples, so treat the 5x as a per-session figure.
  • Members can't see their own seat type: “Other users can't see their own seat type anywhere in Claude.” Ask an Owner or Admin. Purchase and manage seats (opens in a new tab)

Team vs buying everyone Claude Pro (2–3 people)

Pro is $20 a month billed monthly, or $17 a month with annual billing ($200 billed up front). Claude pricing (opens in a new tab) For two people at list price:

Two peopleBilled monthlyBilled annuallyWhat you get on top
2 × Claude Pro2 × $20 = $40 a month2 × $200 = $400 a yearPro's usage each; model training is “Opt-out”; no API credits
Claude Team, 2 Standard seats2 × $25 = $50 a month2 × $20 × 12 = $480 a year1.25x Pro's per-session usage each, central billing, SSO, usage analytics, model training “None by default”, $40 a month of pooled API credits

Team costs $10 a month more for two people on monthly billing, or $80 a year more on annual. Billed monthly, a Standard seat gives the same per-session usage per dollar as Pro (1.25x for $25 against 1x for $20). The extra money mostly buys admin and data controls. For data and DPA terms by plan, see AI coding tool data terms.

Premium seat vs Claude Max

  • Claude Max is an individual plan. claude.com/pricing lists it as “From $100” a month, with “5x or 20x more usage than Pro” per session, and says “Both options are billed monthly.” The page doesn't list the Max 20x price as a plan price, so we don't quote one. Max includes $100 (5x) or $200 (20x) a month of API credits, which also can't be used in Claude Code.
  • A Team Premium seat is $125 monthly or $100 annually for 6.25x Pro's per-session usage. It sits inside the team's billing, admin and SSO, and Team model training is “None by default”, where it's “Opt-out” on Max.
  • How to choose: for a developer on a company team, Premium keeps the seat, billing and data settings under the organization. Max 20x has the higher per-session multiple (20x against 6.25x), but Team seats come in two types only, Standard and Premium, so a Max subscription sits outside the team. What a Claude Team bill looks like (list prices)

Our arithmetic on Anthropic's US list prices. Excludes tax, regional pricing and any usage credits.

TeamBilled monthly (per month)Billed annually (per year)Pooled API credits per month
2 Standard2 × $25 = $502 × $20 × 12 = $4802 × $20 = $40
5 Standard5 × $25 = $1255 × $20 × 12 = $1,200$100
4 Standard + 1 Premium$100 + $125 = $225($80 + $100) × 12 = $2,160$80 + $100 = $180
8 Standard + 2 Premium$200 + $250 = $450($160 + $200) × 12 = $4,320$160 + $200 = $360
12 Standard + 3 Premium$300 + $375 = $675($240 + $300) × 12 = $6,480$500 (the cap; the seats would add up to $540)
25 Standard + 5 Premium$625 + $625 = $1,250($500 + $500) × 12 = $12,000$500 (the cap; the seats would add up to $1,000)

Anthropic's own examples use the same method: 10 Standard seats come to $250 a month billed monthly, or $2,400 a year billed annually. How is my Team plan bill calculated? (opens in a new tab) The credit pool works the same way: Anthropic's example is “three Standard seats and two Premium seats receives $260 a month.” Monthly API credits (opens in a new tab)

Billing rules that catch teams out

  • Adding a seat or upgrading to Premium is charged straight away: “You will be charged the prorated amount immediately.” In Anthropic's annual example, upgrading 5 Standard seats to Premium with 275 days left costs $3,616.44 that day. Team billing examples (opens in a new tab)
  • Removing a member doesn't lower the bill. “You will not receive an immediate credit or refund.” The seat stays paid for and free to reassign. To pay for fewer seats you have to reduce the plan's total seat allocation. Team seat billing (opens in a new tab)
  • Seat reductions wait for renewal. Reducing the seat count “takes effect at your next renewal (on the annual renewal date for annual plans). There is no prorated refund”. Moving someone from Premium to Standard follows the same rule. On annual billing, a Premium seat added in month two is paid for until the annual renewal.
  • Only one scheduled change at a time. “Only one scheduled seat change can be pending at a time.” A new change, added seats or an accepted invite replaces the pending one. Pending invitations count toward your seat limit.
  • Monthly bills follow the member count “at the beginning of each billing cycle”. Claude Team billing (opens in a new tab)
  • Claude Code costs nothing extra on the plan: “Claude Code is included with every Team plan seat.” But if a developer has an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable set, Claude Code uses that key and bills API usage instead of the seat. Claude Code on Team plans (opens in a new tab) API key note (Claude Help Center) (opens in a new tab)

When to look at Enterprise instead

Above 150 seats, Team isn't an option. Below that, Enterprise prices work differently: “the seat fee covers access only, and all usage is billed separately at API rates.” Self-serve Enterprise needs at least 20 seats (sales-assisted needs 50) and is billed annually at US$20 per seat per month plus usage. What is the Enterprise plan? (opens in a new tab) Your Enterprise total depends on how many tokens the team uses, and Anthropic doesn't publish a typical figure, so we don't compare totals here.

Checklist before a Claude Team renewal

  1. Count the seats on the invoice and compare them with the people who actually use Claude. Removed members still take up paid seats until you cut the allocation.
  2. List who holds Premium seats and check in usage analytics whether they hit Standard limits. Downgrades only take effect at renewal, so schedule them before the renewal date.
  3. Revoke pending invitations that won't be accepted, because they count toward your seats.
  4. Check whether an Owner has claimed the team's monthly API credits. They expire at the end of each billing cycle.
  5. Check the billing interval. Annual Standard is $20 against $25 monthly, but annual locks seat reductions until the annual renewal date.
  6. Check the currency and tax on your invoice against the price for your region at claude.ai/upgrade.

FAQ

How much does the Claude Team plan cost?

A Standard seat is $25 per member per month billed monthly, or $20 billed annually. A Premium seat is $125 billed monthly or $100 billed annually. These are Anthropic's US list prices, excluding tax, checked 18 Oct 2026. Prices, currency and tax vary by region.

What is the minimum number of seats on Claude Team?

Two. Anthropic says Team plans require a minimum of two members and are not intended for individual use. The maximum is 150 seats. Above that, Anthropic points you to Enterprise.

What's the difference between Standard and Premium seats?

Both include Claude and Claude Code. A Standard seat gets 1.25x the Pro plan's per-session usage and a Premium seat gets 6.25x, which is 5x Standard. Both have weekly limits. Premium costs 5x as much, so per dollar the usage is the same. You can mix seat types on one team.

Is a Premium seat better than Claude Max?

It depends on who pays. Max is an individual plan, listed from $100 a month, with 5x or 20x Pro's usage and monthly billing only. A Premium seat is $125 monthly or $100 annually for 6.25x Pro's usage, and it sits under the team's billing, admin and data settings, with no model training by default.

Do I get a refund if I remove someone from Claude Team?

No. Anthropic says you will not receive an immediate credit or refund when you remove a member. The seat stays available to reassign. Reducing the total seat count takes effect at your next renewal, which on annual plans is the annual renewal date, with no prorated refund.

Is Claude Team cheaper than buying everyone Claude Pro?

No, at list price. Two Pro plans are $40 a month (or $400 a year on annual billing), and two Team Standard seats are $50 a month (or $480 a year). Team adds 1.25x Pro's per-session usage per person, central billing, SSO, usage analytics, no model training by default and pooled API credits.
