Best AI for Roblox scripting in 2026: Assistant, Claude Code, Cursor and more via Studio MCP

Updated 2026-10-17 · 7 min read

Verdict: Start with Roblox Assistant. It's built into Studio, works on your open place and its docs list no separate price. When you want a stronger agent, turn on Studio's built-in MCP server and connect the agent you already pay for: Claude Code, Cursor or Codex CLI. For $0, connect Google Antigravity through the same quick connect. Whichever you use, keep it working on a copy of your place.

Why Roblox is different

Most AI coding tools edit files in a folder. A Roblox game lives inside Studio's data model: scripts sit inside instances, and testing means pressing Play. So the best AI for Roblox scripting is the one that can work inside Studio, not just write Luau in a chat window. In 2026 there are two official ways to do that, both documented by Roblox (checked 2026-10-17).

Option 1: Roblox Assistant (built in)

Assistant is Roblox's AI helper inside Studio. According to Roblox's docs it can:

  • answer Roblox development questions and explain selected code in the Script Editor;
  • create and modify scripts and objects in your place, for example a remote event plus the matching LocalScript and server Script in one go;
  • search and insert free or paid Creator Store assets and items from your inventories;
  • generate materials, textured 3D meshes and procedural models (up to 50 procedural models in a rolling 24-hour window);
  • use Planning Mode to write an editable plan that only runs when you click Build;
  • capture the viewport so it can check what your scene looks like.

Roblox notes that generated scripts may not work perfectly, so expect to iterate. Roblox Assistant docs (opens in a new tab) Studio is free, and Assistant's documentation lists no price. The docs also mention that Assistant can be used with your own API key.

Option 2: Studio's built-in MCP server plus your favourite agent

Studio includes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Once enabled, an external AI client can read scripts, make multi-line edits, grep across all scripts, run Luau in Edit, Client or Server contexts, start and stop playtests, read console output, take screenshots, simulate keyboard and mouse input, and even run a playtest subagent that verifies gameplay. Roblox MCP docs (opens in a new tab)

Setup: open Assistant → … → Manage MCP Servers → turn on Enable Studio as MCP server. Quick connect supports Antigravity, Codex CLI, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Gemini CLI and Visual Studio Code. Any other client that supports stdio can use the JSON config or CLI command from the same page. A green indicator confirms the connection.

Warning from Roblox: MCP clients can read and modify content in your open places, so only connect clients you trust. We'd add: work on a copy of the place.

Which external agent?

If you already pay for one of these, use it. The MCP server works the same with all of them. Picking a single subscription? See which ONE AI coding subscription to buy.

Who should pick which

  • New to Roblox scripting: Assistant, with Planning Mode, so you can read the plan before it builds.
  • Want $0 but more than Assistant: Antigravity through MCP quick connect.
  • Bigger game, many scripts: Claude Code or Codex CLI through MCP, using script grep plus the playtest subagent.
  • You live in an editor: Cursor or VS Code with Copilot through MCP.

Limits to plan around

A first Roblox AI workflow

  1. Duplicate your place. Open the copy in Studio.
  2. In Assistant, switch to Plan and describe one mechanic, for example “a coin that gives +1 to a leaderstat when touched”.
  3. Review the plan, then click Build.
  4. Playtest. If it breaks, paste the Output error back into Assistant, or let an MCP agent read the console itself.
  5. Only then add the next mechanic.
